How it all started
In September 2021, the CEO of a small Italian company manufacturing high-tech sportswear got in touch with me because he needed an interpreter. The company produces garments both for professional athletes and high-level amateurs using the most advanced technologies and top-notch materials to support people practising sports and wishing to reach high performances.
Luca [invented name] was looking for a go-to English-Italian interpreter that could translate for him during negotiations with foreign partners.
Our work and the results we achieved together
First of all, I asked for the details of the meeting and got familiar with Luca’s company as well as his Australian counterpart. In particular, I searched for their philosophy, products and target markets.
During business negotiations, both technical specifications of the products and economic / organisational aspects of a possible partnership are usually discussed. Therefore, I needed to know the products and the positioning of the two companies.
In that case, it was a remote interpreting job so I sent Luca a guide with some practical tips to minimise the risk of technical issues related to the sound or the connection.
On the day of the meeting, I set my two Internet connections and my two computers, I joined the call earlier to make sure that everything was working properly and ran some sound checks on the video-conferencing software chosen by the client for the meeting.
During the meeting, I supported Luca translating his words into English and the counterpart’s words into Italian.
My job satisfied Luca, who was looking for an interpreter able to translate not only words but also his tone and intentions, key elements in a business negotiation.
Our collaboration over the years
Luca has been resorting to my support every time he has to hold a meeting with foreign partners. I translate for Luca from Italian into English and from English into Italian at business meetings and negotiations with partners from English-speaking countries and all over the world.
As confidential matters are discussed, Luca prefers to have a go-to linguist. This allows me to constantly improve the interpreting services I offer to Luca because I get more and more familiar with his company, his needs and his preferred partners.
In April 2022, Luca asked me to give him English lessons. He had realised that he needed to be able to speak with his partners and prospect clients during exhibitions, business dinners and networking events.
I offered him my online Business English lessons, as we live far apart.

During our lessons with Luca, we dealt with the most common situations in which he needed to speak English with his partners and potential clients implementing a communicative and practical approach. We also examined some vocabulary and useful sentences about common issues of his work, industry and company.
